Hello! My name is Melissa Mae. I live in Utah with my husband, two kids and our dog. When I'm not illustrating I can be found working as a set decorator on movies and commercials. I am very grateful that I have been able to do what I love for a living.

The first time I realized I wanted to be an artist was at the age of 4, while watching Disney's "Snow White". Cliche? Absolutely. But that's my story and I'm stickin to it. I found from an early age I was very detail oriented and noticed things in my environment that people around me didn't seem to pay attention to. While watching a movie I would find myself paying attention to the details of what made the picture come to life. The shading of the trees, the lines that formed a characters face, the colors that were used to create a sad scene compared to those that were used for a happy scene.

Childhood books were a huge influence as well. I would hold up story time because I wanted to study the illustrations and soak up any information I could so I could try the techniques in my own drawing.

As an artist, my style varies. I have struggled with the idea that I "should" have a set style that I stick to in order to be consistent so viewers will recognize it as "my" style, but I enjoy exploring too much and like to be able to create whatever pops into my head.

I sell my art online and at events like Salt Lake Comic Con.

I am my happiest when I'm creating, whether it's a painting, designing a dollhouse for my daughter, or designing a set for a movie, I'm most fulfilled in making something out of nothing!
